Streetside Parking helps you park legally in New York City. It's built to work with as little of your data as possible: there are no accounts, no ads and no tracking.
What stays on your phone
Where you parked, your parking history, your reminder settings and the names of the Bluetooth devices the app learns are your car are stored only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.
What the app sends, and why
- Your approximate area. To show the parking rules around you, the app asks our server for the signs, streets and fire hydrants near a point, rounded on your phone to about 100 meters first. The server uses it to pick a map tile and doesn't store it or link it to you.
- Requests to NYC Open Data and NYC 311. The app may also ask the City's public data services directly for signs, film permits, street closures and the alternate side parking calendar. Those requests include the area being looked up, also rounded to about 100 meters.
- A push notification token. If you allow notifications, your phone's push token is stored on our server so we can tell you when alternate side parking is suspended. It isn't linked to your name or any other information, and it's deleted after 60 days without use.
Location
Streetside Parking uses your location (including in the background, if you allow it) to save your spot when your phone disconnects from your car. This happens on your phone; your location history isn't uploaded.
